An Introduction to LAHS Grad Night
Graduation is a significant milestone in our students' lives, and like all normal teenagers, they want to party and celebrate their "escape" from high school by going to the biggest and absolutely best party of their entire lives. Unfortunately, graduation night has statistically proven to be one of the most dangerous nights in a teenager's life. Too often, celebration involving alcohol, drugs, and driving is one of the biggest risks to these young adults.
LAHS Grad Night was started in the late 1980s by a small group of parents who were concerned about the safety and welfare of all the students at LAHS. Today, this committee has grown to over 20 committees and involves hundred of volunteers who help make Grad Night a reality of each graduating class. These volunteers transform the Los Al Gym into an incredible place where graduating seniors are bombarded with food, music, dancing, live entertainment, games, casino fun, fabulous prizes and much, much more as they party away the night in a supervised environment with their classmates for one last time before they bid farewell and each go their own way.
It takes many volunteer parents and community members to get Grad Night underway each year. As each class graduates, Grad Night also bids farewell to the many experienced parents as they graduate with their child. In order to continue Grad Night for future generations - we are in need of help from parents of all grade levels - freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. It is NEVER too early to start helping and learn the mechanics of hosting this great event. With some imagination, creativity, and a lot of work, our graduates will have the best celebration ever as they party the night away with their fellow graduating classmates.
There are many jobs for volunteers - planning, designing, cutting, gluing, calling parents, donating food, prizes &/or cash, clean up, and more. Grad Night workshops are conducted monthly from April - June. The Grad Night Committee for the Class of 2011 is already underway for this year and is in need of volunteers.
